After a long day of travel, we arrived in Manchester, NH, picked up our rental car and headed for the coast.
We could see the beautiful colors as we flew in and landed giving us hope that we hadn’t missed all the colors
The plan was to head straight to Nunan’s Lobster Hut, a favorite of ours from many years ago. Unfortunately, by the time we got our car and got on the road we wouldn’t make it there by 8 when they close. It was also dark by the time we left the airport so we didn’t get to see much on the drive along the coast to our motel.
We left our house at 7 am and it’s now 7 pm and all we’ve had to eat all day are airplane snacks. We are hungry so I began searching for seafood places along the way to our lodging.
Al’s Seafood, at Hampton Beach, had good ratings so we stopped here.
Kim had the blackened trio which had salmon, scallops and shark.
I had the salmon with butternut squash. It was probably the best salmon I’ve ever eaten, cooked perfectly, and the squash…mm,mm,mm.
Our lodging for the next two nights is the Moody Motel and Cottages.
Located in Wells Beach, Maine, it boasts a tremendous combination of sunrises, sunsets, and sea breezes.
This morning, I was one of the first in America to see the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean directly across from our location. When you walk down the steps to the right of the motel, you end up at the seawall where wild waves crash into the seawall at high tide. You can see the tide is out right now. The seawall offers stunning views of the sunrise and the rocky coast line to the south, but also includes amazing views of local sea life. If you time it right, you can watch the harbor seals playing on the rocks and fishing for their daily meals on the rocks just off shore. I didn’t see them this morning but hopefully before we leave tomorrow I will.
It was only a short walk of ~200 feet, in the other direction, to the beach sand at Crescent Beach, the beginning of miles of Maine’s beautiful sandy beaches. I literally took 42 pictures this morning and it was so hard choosing which to post because they all have something unique about them, so just scroll on down if you’re bored. 😁
And there it is.
When the tide comes in, it washes the seaweed all the way up the steps and ramp to the beach.
The view from our room looks out over the marsh as the birds race back and forth from the many feeders on the back fence. The marsh and estuary is home to many deer, birds, and various other types of wildlife, and I can’t wait to see the sunset this evening.
That is just amazing and beautiful. Can’t wait to see the sunset.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you missed out on Norman’s.

I wonder what that white building across the marsh from your hotel is. It’s so pretty against the backdrop of the changing leaves. ~Kody
