Day 3 - On to Vermont

Good morning from Maine. I walked down to the water again this morning to catch one last sunrise over the Atlantic. I was astounded by the 5 or 6 cars, pulled up along the seawall, presumably to watch the sunrise and listen to the birds and surf. As I walked past the vehicles, I found them running, with the occupants inside, windows up, on their phones, or in one case reading the newspaper, smoking a cigarette and drinking his morning coffee. Couldn’t quite understand the reason for them being there.

I took this photo of the cars parked along the seawall. Some you can just see their headlights.

I was able to walk way out on the beach this morning.

As I came up from the beach I startled these deer in the road. If you zoom in, you can see Kim standing in front of the Moody’s sign drinking his coffee. 😁
By the time I made it back to the cabin, they were safely back in the marsh.
Our footprints in the sand.
As we left the motel this morning we drove to the main Wells Beach. It’s a really nice beach and when the tide is out you can walk a long way.

Most of the red color is gone but there’s still some orange and gold.

We stopped at an apple farm, advertising unprocessed apple cider but they only had 1/2 gal and gallon sizes. The individual servings were gone. 🙁

Fire rescue

We visited the Vermont Country Store and Kim had a maple creemee. I must admit I took a lick and wow was it good.

We’re all checked in to our first night’s lodging on our Vermont Inn to Inn hike. This was originally called the Colonial House Inn. Now it’s just called COHO.

A surprise gift
New England Aster

After a brief meeting to discuss tomorrow’s hike, we went to the dining room for our dinner.
The starter was salad with apples and walnuts and maple balsamic vinaigrette. Everyone else’s also had Vermont cheddar.
The main was pot roast with roasted herbed vegetables.
I had fruit for dessert…
while everyone else had apple pie a la mode.

We have reorganized our bags leaving one suitcase in the car for the next four days so that they will only be transporting one each for us. Bags ready, backpacks ready, map (that I need a magnifying glass for) ready, so we’re off to bed. We didn’t sleep well the last two nights so hoping we get a good rest tonight. The walk tomorrow can be as long as 11.8 miles or as short as you want. The innkeeper will drop you off wherever you want along the trail. The other 5 people that we will see each evening at the next Inns are Mike & Diane (Long Island), Carole & Michelle (Boston) & Sonia (London). We are definitely the old couple 🤣🤣🤣.
Until tomorrow….

  2. What a beautiful picture with the glowing arch over the rising sun and water. The colors are so pretty. Love the footprints in the sand - what stories those particular footprints can tell. Much love to you both - Cathie
